Sales for January 4-10th...Winter Blues

This is the time of year that the winter blues gets me down.  The long, cold, grey days....the fog, the occasional snow, the rain.  *Sigh*  I'm so excited to see the sun even when it's only for a few minutes.

It's also the time of year when there is a marked slowdown in sales.  The Christmas money is all spent and the reality of Christmas bills rears it's ugly head.  Taxes are due soon.  Folks stop spending as much.

This week was slow in both shops.  I barely squeaked out enough sales to pay my site fees and buy some much needed printer ink.

Etsy:
Vintage Valentines Set 20: Sold $25.00
Green Bottles: Sold $10.00
Elephant Figurine: Sold $8.00
Bucilla Pillowcase Kit: Sold $3.00 (Clearance)
Syracuse Butter Dish: Sold $22.00
Scotch Tape Display Basket: Sold $45.00
Vintage Chalkboard: Sold $14.00
Flashbulbs: Sold $12.00

I was SO GLAD to see the green bottles and the bucilla kit hit the road be purchased.  They have been taking up shelf space for over a year!!!

I have noticed an interesting phenomenon going on in my shop.  Since changing my focus to purchase better vintage, I have been selling the better vintage.  A lot of my sales now are the new items I am picking up and have picked up in the past couple of months.  The items that have been listed are sitting unsold.

I am now trying to figure out what this means as far as purchasing inventory and how long to keep inventory that has been around for awhile.  I am tempted to look at my inventory and ask myself, "Would I purchase this __________________ if I saw it at the antique/flea market/thrift store today?" I know that a lot of the answers are going to be NO!  It's just so hard to let go of items you had high hopes for.

eBay:
Cat and Dog Shower Curtain Hooks- Purchased $1.00, Sold $18.99 (FS)
Vintage Felt Banner- Purchased $1.00, Sold $39.99
Preemie Diapers- SIL Twin Stuff, Sold $12.99
Preemie Diapers- SIL Twin Stuff, Sold $12.99
Christmas Mailbox Plastic Canvas Kit- Purchased $1.00, Sold $17.99 (FS)

The felt banner was dropped off at the PO on Friday.  Instead of scanning it accepted, they scanned it delivered.  I hope it's still on it's way to Australia.  I meant to ask at the PO today, but the line was out the door and there was no way I was waiting.  I hope the buyer is understanding if they ever look at the customs number in eBay!  I wonder if I will get my automatic 5 stars for shipping........

Other than that, all my sales (except for the shower curtain hooks) for the week happened on Friday and Saturday.  The rest of the week has been crickets.

I hope your sales are going well!

Thanks for stopping by!

:)

  1. With my stuff on Etsy I usually look at how many times it has been viewed in the last month to decide if I'm going to relist it. I didn't know this at first, but if you pull up the list of what you have currently for sale under the heading your shop, you can see this info by holding your cursor over the little vertical lines after the listing.

I can totally relate to the high hopes thing!

Am glad your better vintage is selling - that tells you you're on the right track!
