Inventory Reorganization......It's a Dump Fest!!!
I have sold some items in OVE that have languished in Old Vintage Goodies. I think having a separate shop has made things more visible and easier to find. I think it has worked equally well for Old Vintage Goodies. Now that things are thinning out a bit it is looking a bit more cohesive and sales are picking up.
I have put Old Vintage Flatware on hold until after the first of the year. I have lots of flatware and am putting some of it in Old Vintage Goodies in the meantime. I am waiting for another photography book with a section on shooting flatware. I want to make my flatware pics pop in the new shop!
Since my eBay sales go downhill from October until after Christmas (I don't really sell anything that would be great for Christmas), it is the perfect time to do some inventory reorganization, a.k.a. a dud dump fest!!
I am moving anything vintage from eBay to Etsy. I am dumping items from both eBay and Etsy that have been listed for 1-1.5 years. I am dumping anything that has chips or dings or dents as I am finding that little of that has sold. I am dumping items off of eBay that I AM SICK OF LOOKING AT every month.
This latest round of purging should be complete around the first of the year. I took 3 large boxes to Goodwill last weekend and already have 2 filled to the top this week. My shelves are looking a little bare but it feels great to move some of this stuff!
If you are wondering, I have figured out that I sell 75% of what I purchase. 3 out of 4 things will eventually sell in the 1-2 year time frame. I was extremely happy with that as that still figures in my "just starting out, what was I thinking" inventory. I'm hoping those numbers will improve next year. Vintage is definitely a waiting game. I purchase very little that flies out of my shops. Seeing the numbers reminds me to "Have patience, grasshopper"!
I am working on my 2014 goals. They have already morphed about 37 times since the beginning of November but I am seeing a common thread. Here are the preliminary goals:
1. Old Vintage Ephemera maintained at 500 listings.
2. Old Vintage Goodies maintained at either 500 items or 1000 items (I am working on this and how it fits my previous research. I may open a 4th shop).
3. Old Vintage Flatware up and running with 500 listings.
4. eBay store revamp done and 1000 listings there.
5. Work on marketing through my blog, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Facebook.
6. Get a direction for my BLOG! My goodness, I need some focus!
Have you started mulling over your goals for 2014 yet?
Do you do an end of the year inventory purge?
